Color Management in Acrobat: Video Lesson

This video lesson, titled “Color Management and Conversion,” shows you how to set up color management in Acrobat. This video lesson is from our complete Acrobat tutorial, titled “Mastering Acrobat Made Easy v.Pro DC.”

Color Management in Acrobat: Overview

You can use color management in Acrobat to help achieve color consistency throughout your work process. A color profile describes the characteristics of a device, like a computer monitor or a printer. Color management in Acrobat maps the colors possible for a device. By setting up color management preferences in Acrobat, you can make sure that what you see on the monitor matches what comes out of the printer as much as possible.

To set up color management in Acrobat, select “Edit| Preferences” from the Menu Bar to open the “Preferences” dialog box. In the list at the left side of the dialog box, then select the “Color Management” choice. If using Adobe Acrobat for prepress production, then you may want to select “North America Prepress 2” from the “Settings” drop-down menu. This setting lets Acrobat display colors as they usually appear when printed using North American printing standards. However, you should always select the settings most appropriate for your use of Adobe Acrobat. Whichever setting you choose tells Acrobat how you want its color management system to convert colors. When you choose a setting, the “Preferences” dialog box displays information about that color management setting. This includes whether or not it preserves CMYK values, and also whether or not it enables profile warnings.

All Adobe applications use the Adobe Color Engine, or ACE, to manage colors. Because of this, color management settings from one Adobe application mirror those of other Adobe applications. After making your color management selections, click “OK” to close the dialog box.
