Overview of How to Replace Color in Photoshop Elements:

            You can replace color in Photoshop Elements by using the “Replace Color” command. The “Replace Color” command lets you replace a color in an image with another color. To replace color in Photoshop Elements, you create a mask. You then adjust the hue and saturation of the selected colors to produce the desired results.

            To replace color in Photoshop Elements, select “Enhance| Adjust Color| Replace Color…” from the Menu Bar. In the “Replace Color” dialog box, choose either the “Selection” or “Image” option buttons in the “Selection” section. Doing this shows the selected one in the display window.

            Check the “Localized Color Clusters” checkbox to make contiguous (touching) pixel selections, if desired. Ensure the “Color Picker Tool” button is selected in the “Selection” section. Then click the first color in the image to replace. It appears in the “Color” window.

            To add or remove colors from the selection, click the “Add to Sample” or “Subtract from Sample” eyedropper tool buttons. Then click back into the image to adjust the color, if needed.

            The “Fuzziness” slider lets you choose colors similar to the one you select to fine-tune your selection. After completing your selections, move the “Hue” and/or “Saturation” sliders in the “Replacement” section to change the colors. Use the “Lightness” slider to adjust the lighting of the image. When you are satisfied with the color replacement, click the “OK” button to replace color in Photoshop Elements.

Instructions on How to Replace Color in Photoshop Elements:

  1. To replace color in Photoshop Elements, select “Enhance| Adjust Color| Replace Color…” from the Menu Bar.
  2. In the “Replace Color” dialog box, choose either the “Selection” or “Image” option buttons in the “Selection” section.
  3. Doing this then shows the selected one in the display window.
  4. To make contiguous (touching) pixel selections, if desired, check the “Localized Color Clusters” checkbox.
  5. Ensure the “Color Picker Tool” button is selected in the “Selection” section.
  6. Then click the first color in the image to replace.
  7. It then appears in the “Color” window.
  8. To add or remove colors from the selection, click the “Add to Sample” or “Subtract from Sample” eyedropper tool buttons.
  9. Then click back into the image to adjust the color, if needed.
  10. To fine-tune your selection to choose colors similar to the one you select, use the “Fuzziness” slider.
  11. To change the colors after completing your selections, move the “Hue” and/or “Saturation” sliders in the “Replacement” section.
  12. If you want to adjust the lighting of the image, use the “Lightness” slider.
  13. To replace color in Photoshop Elements when satisfied with the color replacement, click the “OK” button.
