Create a New Catalog in Lightroom Classic CC: Video Lesson

This video lesson, titled “Creating New Catalogs,” shows you how to create a new catalog in Lightroom Classic CC. This video lesson about creating new catalogs in Lightroom Classic CC is from our complete Lightroom Classic CC tutorial, titled “Mastering Lightroom Classic Made Easy v.CC.”

Create a New Catalog in Lightroom Classic CC: Overview

This lesson shows you how to create a new catalog in Lightroom Classic CC, if needed. When you create a catalog in Lightroom Classic CC, you also create a folder for the catalog at the same time. The name of the folder is the same as the name of the catalog. However, it does not include the catalog suffix. Catalog files use the “.lrcat” file extension.

To create a new catalog in Lightroom Classic CC, select “File| New Catalog…” from the Menu Bar. The “Create Folder with New Catalog” dialog box then appears. In this dialog box, enter the name and location of the new catalog folder. Then click the “Create” button to create the catalog and close the dialog box.

After you create the catalog, Lightroom Classic CC resets to display an empty Library module. You may then import photos into the new catalog.
