Find Email in Outlook - Instructions: A user searching for text within an email folder.

Find Email in Outlook: Overview

There are many ways to find email in Outlook. The “Instant Search” feature is one of the fastest and easiest ways to find email in Outlook. When you have multiple messages in your “Inbox” folder, or any mail folder, it can become more difficult to locate specific messages. In this case, you can use the “Instant Search” feature of Outlook to quickly find your messages.

To find email in Outlook, open mail folder within which to look for the email, like your “Inbox” folder. Then click into the “Instant Search” field in the mail folder’s header pane, above the list of emails.

To search for a new term, enter the text for which to search. The searching begins automatically as you type. You can press the “Enter” key on your keyboard when you have finished typing the search term, if desired. Alternatively, to select from previous search terms, instead, click the magnifying glass button at the right end of the field, if needed. Then select a previous search term from the drop-down menu that appears. Either way, Outlook then shows any items that match the search criteria.
