Flag Email in Outlook Web App: Video Lesson

This video lesson, titled “Flagging Items,” shows you how to flag email in Outlook Web App. This video lesson on how to flag email in Outlook Web App is from our complete Outlook Web App course titled “Mastering Outlook on the Web Made Easy v.2016.”

Flag Email in Outlook Web App: Overview

You can flag email in Outlook Web App to add that item to your task list in the Tasks App. It will be marked “for follow up.” You will also be able to sort email conversations by “Flagged” items when you are setting the sort order for the Inbox pane.

To flag email in Outlook Web App, right-click the item and choose “Flag” from the list. This will add a small red flag icon to the item displayed in the Inbox pane. You can also “Flag” a message by hovering over the top right corner of the item in the Inbox pane and clicking the flag icon.

The view in the Reading pane will also have a green circle icon with “Flag for follow up” and the “start” date, or the date you flagged the item. Flagged items are also set with a “Due” date, which is normally the same day you flagged the item. This will not cause the item to expire; it is for informational purposes, as most tasks are short-term items- like a daily to-do list.

Flagged emails in the tasks list can be interacted with in the same way as emails in the Mail App. To mark a flagged item as completed, right-click the item and choose “Mark complete.” Alternatively, hover over the top right corner of the item in the Inbox pane and click the flag icon to mark it as completed. To mark a task complete in the Tasks App, click the clipboard icon on the top right corner of the item.
