Full Screen Mode in Acrobat: Overview

            In Full Screen mode in Acrobat, Acrobat hides all of the toolbars, menus and panes. Doing this then shows the currently-opened PDF using all of the available viewing space on the monitor. Full Screen mode in Acrobat is useful for viewing informational or instructional PDFs.

            To view a PDF in Full Screen mode in Acrobat, first open a PDF. Then select “View| Full Screen Mode” from the Menu Bar. The page resizes to fit your screen and everything but the page disappears from view.

To navigate Full Screen Mode in Acrobat, left-click your mouse to advance through the pages. Right-click to return to previous pages. You can also press “Enter” or “Spacebar” on your keyboard to move through pages. Holding down the “Shift” key on your keyboard and then pressing either the “Enter” or “Spacebar” keys on your keyboard moves to previous pages. To exit Full Screen Mode in Acrobat, press the “Esc” key on your keyboard. You can also use the keyboard shortcut of “Ctrl” + “L” to exit.

            To add onscreen navigation controls, press your keyboard’s “Esc” key to exit Full Screen mode in Acrobat. Then select “Edit| Preferences” from the Menu Bar. Choose “Full Screen” from the list of categories in the “Preferences” dialog box. Then select the “Show Navigation Bar” option. Then click “OK” to apply your preferences.

            Often, when opening a PDF in Full Screen mode in Acrobat, a message box may launch, telling you the document is trying to put Acrobat into Full Screen mode. If you see this warning, you can select the option to “Remember my choice for this document,” and Acrobat will not show you the message when you open that PDF in the future.

Full Screen Mode in Acrobat: Instructions

  1. To view a PDF in Full Screen mode in Acrobat, open a PDF document in Acrobat.
  2. Then select “View| Full Screen Mode” from the Menu Bar.
  3. To navigate Full Screen Mode in Acrobat, left-click your mouse to advance through the pages.
  4. Right-click to return to previous pages.
  5. You can also press “Enter” or “Spacebar” on your keyboard to move through pages.
  6. Holding down the “Shift” key on your keyboard and then pressing either the “Enter” or “Spacebar” keys on your keyboard will move to previous pages.
  7. To exit Full Screen Mode, press the “Esc” key on your keyboard.
  8. You can also use the keyboard shortcut of “Ctrl” + “L” to exit.
