by Joseph Brownell / Friday, December 01 2023 / Published in Latest, Sage50, Small Business Accounting

Video Lesson on How to Change the Global Options in Sage 50 Accounting:

This video lesson, titled “How to Change the Global Options in Sage 50 Accounting,” shows how to change the settings which affect all company files in Sage 50 Accounting. This video lesson is from our complete Sage 50 tutorial, titled “Mastering Sage 50 Made Easy.”

Overview of How to View and Change the Global Options in Sage 50 Accounting:

To view and change the default options that affect all Sage 50 Accounting companies, select “Options| Global…” from the Menu Bar to open the “Maintain Global Options” window. The tabs in this window are “Accounting,” “General,” “Sage Partners” and “Spelling.”

Accounting Options

The “Accounting” tab contains the “Decimal Entry,” “Number of Decimal Places,” “Hide General Ledger Accounts,” and “Other Options” sections. Under the “Decimal Entry” section, select either “Automatic” or “Manual” decimal entry. If you choose “Manual” decimal entry, set the number of digits of decimal display within the types of fields listed in the “Number of Decimal Places” section.

Under the “Hide General Ledger Accounts” section, check the checkbox next to the types of forms within which to hide the display of general ledger accounts. Under the “Other Options” section, select any other options for Sage 50 you want to set.

General Options

To view general options for Sage 50 companies, click the “General” tab. The sections in this tab are “Improve Performance,” “Line Item Entry Display,” “Smart Data Entry,” and “Color Scheme.” Under the “Improve Performance” section, you can select “Do not print total page length of reports in report headers,” “Do not show quantity on hand in inventory item lookup lists,” “Update the Business Status and Navigation Centers only when the Refresh button is clicked,” “Update reports automatically when records are saved,” “Update reports when I set focus to them” and/or “Do not save last selected Date Range in List Views.”

Under the “Line Item Entry Display” section, you select either “1 Line” or “2 Line.” Within the “Smart Data Entry” section, you can select “Automatic Field Completion,” “Drop-down list displays automatically,” and/or “Automatically create IDs on maintenance windows.” The first two checkboxes should be checked to make using the program easier. You can choose to enable or disable the third option, based on the amount of control over IDs you prefer.

The “Color Scheme” of the program can be changed by selecting a different color scheme option button within that section. You can also click the “Reset” button to reset all the one-time pop-up messages in Sage 50 to show again.

Sage Partners Options

On the “Sage Partners” tab, you select the level of security for programs that access Sage 50’s data by selecting the desired option button. You can also check or uncheck the “Allow partner applications to display Sage 50 screens” checkbox, as needed.

Spelling Options

On the “Spelling” tab, select when Sage 50 checks for spelling errors. In the “Spell Check Options” section, you can select to “Check spelling as you type” and/or “Check spelling on save or close.” To set the speed and accuracy of spell check, select the desired rate within the “Suggestion speed and accuracy” section. Within the “Running options” section, check or uncheck any spelling options to enforce or ignore. You can choose your main dictionary language from the “Main dictionary language” drop-down.

To apply the global options, click the “OK” button to apply them and close the “Maintain Global Options” window.
