5 Ways to Gain Twitter Followers on Your Company Page

by Keeley Byrnes / Monday, July 01 2013 / Published in Latest, Marketing

While the main purpose of Twitter is following celebrities or keeping in touch with friends, Twitter is also powerful for businesses looking to gain attention, increase product marketing, and to increase search engine optimization. In order to have a strong social media strategy, Twitter should be included in the overall plan. In this post, we will share 5 ways to gain Twitter followers for your company page.

1. Add a button in your company emails

How can others follow your company Twitter if they don’t know your username? Adding a Twitter button into the signature section of your company emails makes it easy for people to find you. It’s also a good idea to add a Twitter button to your website. The easier you make it for users to find you, the more likely people will be to follow.

2. Be a resource

The fastest way to lose followers is to constantly advertise and push your products. People will follow your page if they have a reason to. In order to gain followers and then keep them around, be a resource. Vary the posts to include interesting pictures, articles, and “re-tweets” that would be helpful to your followers. Users are so used to advertising that they tend to tune it out. Instead of straight advertising, be a resource and more people will follow you- increasing your brand image. Not every post has to be 100% about your industry, but it should be relevant, useful information. The best question to ask is “If I saw this, would I share/re-post/ read it?”

3. Hold a contest

Announcing a contest is a great way to gain a large amount of followers in a short amount of time. However, be aware that the more difficult the contest is to enter, the less followers you will receive. Make sure the contest is interesting, is easy to enter, and has a prize that is appropriate for the amount of effort it takes to enter. An example would be giving away a $20 gift card to a random Twitter follower every week or every month. Also, make sure you have rules in place and that it’s done legally and ethically!

4. Pay attention to trends

Twitter shows trends that are occurring  on its website based on location. By using hash tags and contributing to the trends, your company is more likely to be seen and more people can follow your interesting posts.

5. Offer coupons to those who follow you

Another great strategy is to offer exclusive coupons for those users who follow your company’s social media pages. You can also use a specific coupon code in order to track where the sales are coming from. This can give you data that you can use to tweak the page in the future.
