How to Search in Windows 11: Video

This video lesson, titled “How to Search in Windows 11,” shows you how to search in Windows 11. This video lesson is from our complete Windows 11 tutorial, titled “Mastering Windows Made Easy v.11.”

Overview of How to Search in Windows 11:

To search in Windows 11, click the “Search” button in the Windows taskbar to show a Search menu above the Search button. Then type the text for which to search into the “Type here to search” field at the top of the Search menu. As you type, search results then begin to appear at the left side of the Search menu below the “Type here to search” field. The search results are grouped by categories like “Best match,” “Apps,” “Settings,” and “Search the web.”

After you finish typing the search term or terms, you can then click any result to open it. Alternatively, you can click the right-pointing arrow to the right of a search result to show related documents, commands, settings, or web results in the right side of the menu. You can then click a result in the right menu to open it.

Optionally, to filter the search results by category in Windows 11, you can click any category link under the “Type here to search” field. Doing this filters the current search by the results for the selected category. You can then click any filtered search result or its related items to open it, as usual. To close the Search menu without making a choice, click the Search button in the Windows 11 taskbar again.
