How to Shut Down Windows 11: Video

This video lesson, titled “How to Shut Down Windows 11,” shows you how to shut down Windows 11. This video lesson is from our complete Windows 11 tutorial, titled “Mastering Windows Made Easy v.11.”

Overview of How to Shut Down Windows 11:

When you need to turn off your computer, it is very important to turn your computer off correctly. Do not simply unplug a computer or interrupt its power source! Doing this could possibly corrupt the information in your computer!

To shut down Windows 11, click the Start button in the Windows taskbar to show the Start menu. Then click the “Power” button in the lower-right corner of the Start menu to show a pop-up menu of shutdown choices. To shut down the computer, select the “Shut down” command from the pop-up menu.

Alternatively, to shut down Windows 11, right-click the Start button in the Windows taskbar. Then roll your mouse pointer over the “Shut down or sign out” command in the pop-up menu that appears. Then click the shutdown choice to perform in the side menu that appears: “Sign out,” “Sleep,” “Shut down,” or “Restart.”

Selecting the “Sign out” command signs you out of the current account on the computer. Selecting the “Sleep” command makes the computer hibernate. Selecting the “Shut down” command shuts down the computer. Selecting the “Restart” command shuts down the computer and then immediately restarts it.

If you choose the “Shut down” command, note that it may take a few moments before Windows shuts down entirely, so be patient. Once Windows has completely powered off and the computer is shut down, then it is permissible to shut off the power supply for the computer or unplug it, if necessary.
