            This video lesson, titled “Using the Notes Master,” shows how to change a presentation’s notes master in PowerPoint. This video lesson is from our complete PowerPoint tutorial, titled “Mastering PowerPoint Made Easy v.2019 and 365.”

Overview of the Notes Master in PowerPoint:

            Changing a presentation’s notes master in PowerPoint lets you change the look of its “Notes Page” presentation view. To edit a presentation’s notes master in PowerPoint, click the “View” tab in the Ribbon. Then click the “Notes Master” button in the “Master Views” button group. Doing this then displays the notes master for the presentation in the main window. The “Notes Master” contextual tab then also appears in the Ribbon.

            You can then change the contents of the notes master to change the layout of the notes page view of the presentation. To add or remove placeholders in the notes master in PowerPoint, click the “Notes Page” contextual tab in the Ribbon. Then check or uncheck the placeholder checkboxes in the “Placeholders” button group.

            To close the notes master view after editing it, click the “Notes Master” contextual tab in the Ribbon. Then click the “Close Master View” button in the “Close” button group.

Instructions on Using the Notes Master in PowerPoint:

  1. To edit the notes master for a PowerPoint presentation, click the “View” tab in the Ribbon.
  2. Then click the “Notes Master” button in the “Master Views” button group.
  3. Doing this then opens the notes master for the presentation in the main window.
  4. A new “Notes Master” contextual tab also appears in the Ribbon.
  5. You can then change the contents of the notes master to change the layout of the notes page view of the presentation.
  6. To add or remove placeholders in the notes master in PowerPoint, click the “Notes Page” contextual tab in the Ribbon.
  7. Then check or uncheck the placeholder checkboxes in the “Placeholders” button group.
  8. To close the notes master view after editing it, click the “Notes Master” contextual tab in the Ribbon.
  9. Then click the “Close Master View” button in the “Close” button group.
