How to Print Images in Photoshop Elements: Video

Overview of How to Print Images in Photoshop Elements:

            This lesson shows you how to print images in Photoshop Elements. To print images in Photoshop Elements to your default printer, select “File| Print…” from the Menu Bar. You can select this command in either the “Photo Editor” or the “Organizer” window. Doing this then launches the “Print” dialog box. Here, you can select a printer and set the print options. Depending on the version of Elements you are using, your dialog box may look a bit different. However, you have the same choices available to print images in Photoshop Elements.

How to Add or Remove Photos to Print:

            In the left pane, you can add or subtract photos to or from your print job. To do this, click the “Add” and “Remove” buttons at the lower-left corner of the screen. If you click “Add,” you can add photos currently in the browser, add an entire catalog, add an album, or add photos by people, places, events, or keyword by clicking a choice in the “Add Photos” dialog box that opens. If needed, then use the adjacent drop-downs to make a selection.

            Choices appear to the right. Click any choice to select it. You can also use the “Select All” and “Deselect All” buttons below the choices to make selections. After making your selections, click the “Done” button. Alternatively, click the “Cancel” button to not add photos to the print job. At that point, you return to the “Print” dialog box. If you have multiple photos, you can select a photo from the list at the left side of the screen. To remove a selected photo from the print job, click the “Remove” button at the bottom of the left panel.

How to Rotate and Position Photos to Print:

            If you have multiple photos selected, you can use the “Go forward a page” and “Go back a page” buttons, which look like small blue arrows in the middle pane of the dialog box, to select a page of the print job to adjust. In the middle pane of the “Print” dialog box, you can choose to rotate the selected page by clicking the two “Rotate” buttons. To rotate the image in the image placeholder, check the adjacent “Image Only” checkbox before clicking the “Rotate” buttons. To scale the image in the image placeholder in the page, use the slider to the right of the rotation buttons or click the button shown at either end of the slider to set the minimum or maximum scaling possible.

            In the “Position” section in the middle pane of the dialog box, you can also select how to position the image on the page when you print images in Photoshop Elements. To center the image in the page when you print images in Photoshop Elements, check the “Center Image” checkbox. To specify your own position, uncheck the “Center Image” checkbox. Then enter specific values into the “Top” and “Left” fields. Then use the “Units” drop-down to specify the units of measurement for the values you entered.

How to Select a Printer and Change the Page Setup:

            In the right pane, make your printing selections to print images in Photoshop Elements. Select the printer to use to print images in Photoshop Elements from the drop-down in the “Select Printer” section. The “Printer Settings” section shows the current printer settings. You can click the “Change Settings…” button to make advanced changes to your selected printer in the “Change Settings” dialog box that appears. If you open the “Change Settings” dialog box, use the drop-downs to make selections and click the “OK” button to apply them.

            In the “Select Paper Size” section, select a paper size on which to print images in Photoshop Elements by using the drop-down. In the “Select Type of Print” section, choose a type of print from the drop down. The “Individual Prints,” “Picture Package,” or “Contact Sheet” choices appear here. In the “Select Print Size” section, choose a print size from the drop-down. To crop the photo to fill a selected print size, check the “Crop to Fit” checkbox. Choose the number of copies to print by entering a value into the “Print (number) copies” field. Alternatively, click the adjacent up and down arrows on the number field to change its value.

            To change the page setup options for the printer you selected, click the “Page Setup…” button. Doing this then opens a printer-specific dialog box that lets you adjust those settings, if available. Make any changes you want and then click the “OK” button in that dialog box. Doing that applies the settings and returns you to the “Print” dialog box. To set advanced print options if you are familiar with them, click the “More Options…” button at the bottom of the screen. Doing this opens a “More Options” dialog box. Adjust the settings, as needed. Then click the “OK” button to apply them and return to the “Print” dialog box.

            To print images in Photoshop Elements after setting your print options, click the “Print…” button in the lower-right corner of the “Print” dialog box.

Instructions on How to Print Images in Photoshop Elements:

  1. To print images in Photoshop Elements in either the “Photo Editor” or the “Organizer” window, select “File| Print…” from the Menu Bar to launch the “Print” dialog box.
  2. The left pane lets you add or subtract photos to or from your print job by clicking the “Add” and “Remove” buttons in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  3. If you click “Add,” then you can add photos currently in the browser, add an entire catalog, add an album, or add photos by people, places, events, or keyword by clicking a choice in the “Add Photos” dialog box that opens.
  4. If needed, then use the adjacent drop-downs to make a selection.
  5. Choices then appear to the right.
  6. Click any choices to add to select them.
  7. You can also use the “Select All” and “Deselect All” buttons below the choices to help make selections.
  8. After making your selections, then click the “Done” button.
  9. Alternatively, click the “Cancel” button if you choose not to add any photos to the print job.
  10. At that point, you then return to the “Print” dialog box.
  11. If you have multiple photos, you can select a photo from the listing at the left side of the screen.
  12. To remove a selected photo from the print job, click the “Remove” button at the bottom of the left panel.
  13. If you have multiple photos selected, you can use the “Go forward a page” and “Go back a page” buttons, which look like small blue arrows in the middle pane of the dialog box, to select a page of the print job to adjust.
  14. The middle pane of the “Print” dialog box lets you rotate the selected page by clicking the two “Rotate” buttons.
  15. To rotate the image in the image placeholder, check the adjacent “Image Only” checkbox before clicking the “Rotate” buttons.
  16. To scale the image in the image placeholder in the page, use the slider to the right of the rotation buttons or click the button at either end of the slider to set the minimum or maximum scaling possible.
  17. In the “Position” section in the middle pane of the dialog box, you can also select how to position the image on the page.
  18. To center the image in the page, check the “Center Image” checkbox.
  19. To specify your own position, uncheck the “Center Image” checkbox.
  20. Then enter specific values into the “Top” and “Left” fields and use the “Units” drop-down to specify the units of measurement for the values.
  21. In the right pane, then make your printing selections.
  22. Select the printer to use from the drop-down in the “Select Printer” section.
  23. In the “Printer Settings” section, you can keep the current printer settings shown or click the “Change Settings…” button to make advanced changes to your selected printer in the “Change Settings” dialog box that appears.
  24. If you open the “Change Settings” dialog box, use the drop-downs to make your selections and then click the “OK” button to apply them.
  25. In the “Select Paper Size” section, then select a paper size by using the drop-down.
  26. In the “Select Type of Print” section, then choose a type of print from the drop down. Your choices are “Individual Prints,” “Picture Package,” or “Contact Sheet.”
  27. In the “Select Print Size” section, then choose a print size from the drop-down.
  28. To crop the photo to fill a selected print size, check the “Crop to Fit” checkbox.
