Show the Ruler in Word: Video Lesson

This video lesson, titled “Showing and Hiding the Ruler,” shows you how to show the ruler in Word and also hide the ruler in Word. This video lesson is from our complete Word tutorial, titled “Mastering Word Made Easy v.2019 and 365.”

Show the Ruler in Word: Overview

You can easily show the ruler in Word and also hide it. Microsoft Word provides you with a ruler that you can use to set tabs within a document. The ruler also assists in the placement and positioning of document text and document objects. Depending upon which document view you are using, the ruler may appear differently, or it may not appear at all. The ruler appears both horizontally and vertically in the “Print Layout” view, but only appears horizontally in the “Draft” view, for example.

You can turn the ruler on and off in Word the same way. To show the ruler in Word or hide it, first select the “View” tab in the Ribbon. Then check or uncheck the “Ruler” checkbox in the “Show” button group to turn the display of the ruler on and off, if available for your currently selected document view. Checking the checkbox shows the ruler. Unchecking the checkbox hides the ruler.
