Overview:
Color Management in Photoshop:
It’s important that color is consistent in your images as they are processed. Color management refers to the system of attempting to keep the colors in your images as consistent as possible from the onscreen display to the final printed product. This can be a complex task because each machine, meaning printer, computer, scanner, etc., takes the raw color values and interprets them differently.
Color management systems translate colors using color profiles, which provide mathematical descriptions of a device’s color space. Color management systems also provide multiple rendering intents, which are color translation methods. This helps you select a method for different types of images, as needed.
How to Change the Color Settings in Photoshop:
You should set the color management settings that Photoshop will use when creating or opening files. If using the Adobe Creative Suite, you can set the color management settings for all the Adobe products within Adobe Bridge. Alternatively, to set the color management settings in Photoshop, select “Edit| Color Settings…” from the Menu Bar to open the “Color Settings” dialog box.
To apply a color settings preset in Photoshop, then select its name from the “Settings” drop-down in the “Color Settings” dialog box. These preset color settings change which working space color profiles to use, how to handle color profiles in documents you open or import, and how to convert colors within the “Working Spaces,” “Color Management Policies,” and “Conversion Options” sections, respectively.
You can also manually change any of these color settings to apply custom settings, if needed. To view what a setting does, hover your mouse pointer over the setting’s name or value in the “Color Settings” dialog box. The description of the setting or the setting’s value over which you hover then appears in the “Description” section at the bottom of the dialog box. After applying your desired color management settings in Photoshop, then click the “OK” button in the “Color Settings” dialog box to apply them.
