This video lesson, titled “Generative Fill in Photoshop,” shows you how to use generative fill in Photoshop to fill-in selections with AI content generated by Adobe Firefly. For more tips on how to use Photoshop, please check out our complete Photoshop tutorial, titled “Mastering Photoshop Made Easy.”
How to Use Generative Fill:
Generative fill in Photoshop uses a text prompt to create AI content from Adobe Firefly that fills-in photo selections. Therefore, before you can use this feature, you must be connected to the Internet. You must also have available generative credits for your associated Adobe account, as each generative fill in Photoshop uses one credit.
To apply a generative fill in Photoshop, first open the desired image to fill in Photoshop. Then make the selection to fill within the photo, using the selection tools, as usual. Next, either click the “Generative Fill” button in the contextual toolbar or select “Edit| Generative Fill…” from the Menu Bar. In the text box that then appears, enter the text description of the content you want Adobe Firefly to generate within the selection. Finally, click the adjacent “Generate” button.
Photoshop then uses Adobe Firefly to generate the content you requested and adds it to the selection area. The content appears as a new layer and layer mask within the “Layers” panel. The text prompt you typed, and its generated variations appear in the “Properties” panel. To apply a different variation, click it to select it within the “Properties” panel. Optionally, to enhance the details of a variation if it is larger than 1024 pixels, click the “Enhance detail” button in the upper-left corner of the desired variation when you hover over it within the “Properties” panel.
