Video Lesson:
This video lesson, titled “How to Search within a Playlist in YouTube,” shows you how to find a video within a playlist in YouTube.
How to Search within a Playlist in YouTube:
If you are viewing YouTube within a web browser, then you can easily perform a text search to find a video that has a title or artist/author within a playlist in YouTube that matches the text you enter. Unfortunately, this is not a feature that YouTube currently provides as part of the YouTube website or mobile app. So, if you use the YouTube mobile app, you won’t be able to do this. Alternatively, if you watch YouTube in any common web browser, like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, you can find a video within a playlist in YouTube by using the “Find in page” feature of the web browser.
To search for a video within a playlist in YouTube if viewing YouTube in a web browser, first open the playlist in the web browser. Next, scroll to the bottom of the playlist, so you load all the videos in the playlist within the page. Depending on how many videos the playlist contains, you may need to do this a few times. You do this because YouTube only loads the first hundred videos in a playlist at a time, and to search within the entire playlist, you’ll want to load them all.
Use the Find Feature of the Web Browser:
If using a computer, then press either the “Ctrl + F” keys if using a Windows PC or press the “Command + F” keys if using a Mac to open the “Find on page” feature of the web browser. Almost all web browsers use the keyboard shortcut of “Ctrl + F” for Windows or “Command + F” for Macs to open the “Find on page” feature of the web browser software.
Alternatively, if using a mobile device, open the “Settings” button if using Chrome, Edge, or Firefox or the “Sharing” button if using Safari, in the web browser app’s toolbar. Then select the “Find in Page…” command in Chrome or Firefox or the “Find on page” command in Edge or Safari. Note that you can also access the “Find on page” feature this way if using a web browser on a computer, too.
At that point, for all the web browsers, a toolbar with a text box appears over the page, into which you then type the text for which to search within the page. Since you are viewing all the videos in the playlist in the page, this lets you search through the text of the videos’ titles or authors, as needed. If there are multiple text matches in the playlist, you can then click the arrows in the toolbar to move up and down through the matching results in the playlist to find the desired playlist video.
