This video lesson, titled “How to Take a Screenshot in Windows 11,” shows you how to take a screenshot in Windows 11. For more tips on how to use Windows 11, please check out our complete Windows tutorial, titled “Mastering Windows Made Easy.”
How to Take a Screenshot in Windows 11:
To quickly take a full screen screenshot in Windows 11, press the “Windows” + “PrintScreen” keys on your keyboard. Alternatively, and only if your keyboard doesn’t have a “PrintScreen” key, instead press “Fn” + “Windows” + “Spacebar” on your keyboard.
Alternatively, to take a screenshot in Windows 11 using a simplified version of the Snipping Tool app, either press the “PrintScreen” key or press the “Windows” + “Shift” + “S” keys on your keyboard. A small toolbar for the Snipping Tool app then appears at the top of the screen.
Click the “Snipping mode” drop-down button, which should be the third button from left, to select the type of screenshot to take. It defaults to “Rectangle.” If you select “Rectangle,” then click and drag to draw a rectangle over the onscreen content to copy. If you select “Window,” then click a window onscreen to copy it. Alternatively, if you select “Full screen,” Windows copies the whole screen. If you select “Freeform,” then click and drag around the content onscreen to copy it.
To then paste a copied screenshot into an app in Windows 11, open the app and press the “Ctrl” + “V” keys on your keyboard or use the “Paste” button in the app, if available. The Snipping Tool app determines how to save copied content in Windows 11. By default, the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 saves screenshots to the “Screenshots” folder in the “Pictures” folder for each user. However, you can change this location or disable saving screenshots by changing the Snipping Tool’s settings.
To change the Snipping Tool’s settings, open the app, click the “See more” button in its toolbar, and select “Settings.” Then toggle the settings on or off and change any enabled settings, as needed.
