PowerPoint Reading View: Overview

PowerPoint Reading View lets you view a presentation as if it is shown in “Slide Show View,” but within the application window versus full screen. The options you have for advancing through this view are almost identical to the options you have when viewing the presentation in Slide Show View.

To enter PowerPoint Reading View, click the “Reading View” button in the Presentation Views button group in the Status Bar. Alternately, click the “Reading View” button within the “Presentation Views” button group on the “View” tab in the Ribbon.

In PowerPoint Reading View, you can navigate to the next slide by clicking onscreen, just like in Slide Show View. The navigation tools in the lower-right corner of the Status Bar let you move through the presentation slides. They also let you access more advanced navigation features.

You can click the “Previous” and “Next” buttons in this area to move to the previous or next slides. Click the “Menu” button to view a popup menu of other slide show options from which you can then select. For example, you can select the “End Show” command from the pop-up menu to end the show and then return to your previous presentation view. Alternately, you can also press the “Esc” key on your keyboard to exit the PowerPoint Reading View.
