How to Void a Check in QuickBooks: Overview

You can void a check in QuickBooks that you have created, if necessary. To void a check, first open the check to void and display it in the “Write Checks” window. Then select “Edit| Void Check” from the Menu Bar to void the check shown in the “Write Checks” window. To then save the changes to the check, click the “Save” button in the “Main” tab of the Ribbon at the top of the “Write Checks” window. Alternatively, click the “Save & Close” button at the bottom of the window.

At that point, QuickBooks may then offer to create two journal entries to maintain the accuracy of your financial reports and account balances. To let QuickBooks make these entries for you, click the “Yes” button in the message box that appears. Alternatively, to make the entries yourself, click the “No, just void the check” button, instead.
