The Sent Items Folder in Outlook: Overview

To view the contents of the Sent Items folder in Outlook, click the “Mail” icon in the Navigation Bar. Then select the “Sent Items” folder in the Folder Pane. The Sent Items folder contains copies of all the messages that you have sent to others. You can view, sort and print messages in the Sent Items folder the same way that you would in your Inbox.

The Sent Items folder in Outlook also lets you resend lost messages. Email is normally very reliable, but occasionally problems can occur that will cause you to lose messages you tried to send. You can use the items in your Sent Items folder to resend messages that were lost during delivery. To learn how to resend messages from the Sent Items folder, please read our “Resend a Message in Outlook” blog post.

The Sent Items folder also lets you attempt to recall messages you have sent to others. This function will only work, however, if the recipient of the email has not yet opened the message. To learn how to attempt to recall an email message, please read our “Recall a Message in Outlook” blog post.
